Fall is upon us, and with it comes a beautiful transformation in the season; as the leaves start to change into rich yellows, reds, and oranges, the days become shorter and the nights longer. Of course, shorter days means that some of us will have to wake up while it’s still dark outside, and that can put a serious dent in one’s enjoyment of this time of year.
A good cup of coffee, however, can set things right again and make for a great way to start the day. More than just a quick energy booster, coffee has been studied to have a number of health benefits. It’s believed to be a brain booster, helping with memory and problem-solving. It’s also a reputed fat burner, helping you to get in shape faster. Coffee may even have liver-cleansing effects if it’s consumed without added milk or sugar.
You can make that morning cup of coffee even better with the addition of a little CBD oil. The addition of CBD may help to offset some of the side effects of the caffeine, taking the edge off of the anxiety and jitteriness that can occur with your morning coffee. CBD is believed to have a number of other benefits as well, including a purported ability to reduce inflammation, which can help with a variety of conditions, including nausea and arthritis. It’s also great for athletes, helping you to get the most out of your morning workout.
It’s certainly possible to just add a few drops of CBD oil to a cup of strong black coffee, and to enjoy the benefits that way. For those who want to enjoy some unique flavors while seeking to maximize the health benefits from their morning cup, here are a few CBD coffee recipes to try:
Rooted Hemp Co.’s Dirty Chai
Trendy for years now, chai isn’t going anywhere. Traditionally made from black tea and milk, this alternative version is vegan and cuts down on the sugar content while still maximizing the benefits of the delicious herbs and spices. Cinnamon may help improve blood pressure, while ginger has been claimed to aid in digestion and cloves have been used as a remedy for ulcers and other infections for years. Add in a little coffee and CBD for the perfect morning drink.
2 cups of hemp or alternative milk of choice
2 Tbsp maple syrup
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ginger
1 star anise
4-5 whole cloves
4-5 cracked cardamom pods
1 small pinch salt
1 shot of espresso or very strong coffee
25mg Rooted Hemp Co. CBD
Heat all ingredients and milk on the stove until hot, let spices seep for 5 minutes. Whisk mixture vigorously then strain through a fine strainer. Add coffee to hot infused milk. Serve in your favorite mug. Top with freshly grated nutmeg, CBD and enjoy.
Rooted Hemp Co.’s Golden Milk
If you really want to “milk” the benefits of your morning coffee, how about adding a little turmeric? Already famed for its unique, warming taste – it’s what gives curry its signature flavor – turmeric has also been claimed to have a wide variety of health benefits. It’s believed to reduce inflammation, which makes it great for helping with everything from arthritis, to anxiety and even many skin conditions. This recipe also makes use of coconut milk, which is an excellent hydrator that many athletes swear by, claiming that it can help with both weight loss and muscle building. For those that don’t like coconut milk, you can also substitute almond milk in this unique recipe.
1 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
1/2 tsp nutmeg powder
1/2 tsp ginger powder
Pinch of ground pepper
Coconut or Almond milk
1 tsp honey
25mg Rooted Hemp Co. CBD
On a stove top, heat a desired amount of coconut milk in a saucepan and bring to a simmer. (Measure the amount of milk out in your mug that you will be using). Place all ingredients in the saucepan and whisk until nice and frothy – pour into your mug. Sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy.
Vegan Pumpkin Spice Latte
How about a vegan version of a signature autumn drink? Actually, pumpkins are believed to have a few great health benefits of their own: They’re extremely rich in Vitamin A and other important nutrients, as well as a wide array of health-promoting antioxidants. They also get their signature orange color from a huge quantity of beta carotene, the same nutrient that gives carrots their famous hue. Beta carotene is claimed to have a number of health benefits, especially for skin, hair, and nails. Add a little CBD and your favorite fall drink will prove to be simultaneously healthy, relaxing, and festive!
2 Tbsp pureed pumpkin (you can use canned, but fresh pumpkin will be healthier and much lower in sugar)
2 Tbsp maple syrup
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 cup strong coffee or 1-2 shots espresso
25mg Rooted Hemp Co. CBD oil
1 can coconut cream (for making vegan whipped cream topping)
Heat up the pureed pumpkin and maple syrup together on the stove. Allow them to thicken, and then add the cashew milk. Heat the mixture, but do not bring to a boil. Add the coffee, CBD oil, and pumpkin pie spice.
To make the whipped cream topping, chill a can of coconut cream overnight. Doing so will cause the cream to separate and partially solidify. Once it has done so, scoop the cream portion out of the can, making sure it does not mix back in with the water in the can. Place the cream into a bowl and use an electric mixer to thicken it, just as you would with traditional cream. Once it has reached the desired consistency, scoop it on top of your CBD pumpkin spice latte, sprinkle on some pumpkin pie spice, and enjoy.
